Development of Tanks
Tanks are armored vehicles developed in World War I. The tank is a greatly protected vehicle which has weapons inside for the offensive approach. Ideas for tanks were envisioned by people before WWI such as Leonardo da Vinci, but it was Lancelot de Mole who created the first tank on September 6th, 1915. The first tank was made in England and went by the name "Little Willie". The tank was invented to kill off the enemy who was using trench warfare. Troops needed a way to advance on to opposing lines without being shot down, and the the tank provided that. |
The tank was first used at the Battle of Flers. It was then used with less success at the Battle of the Somme. The tank, being a new machine, was highly unreliable, and often got stuck in the land. One of the most successful wars with tanks was the Battle of Cambrai, shown to the right. The Battle took place in November of 1917.

Overall Impact and Consequences?
The soldiers on the front lines in Europe were affected very much, tanks would be driving around by the soldiers causing them to be in great danger by the machine guns in the tanks. The leaders of the nations were affected when making decisions when creating their offensive and defensive strategy. Offensively they would have to be careful because the tank provided superior defense for the other side and was able to kill many at the same time. Defensively they had to plan and make sure there was never a group of soldiers or they could all die at once if the tank was near by. The civilians near the front lines in Europe must of been incredibly scared. Tanks were loud and huge, the civilians weren't necessarily in danger of being shot considering the pilot controlling the tank had experience and wasn't shooting toward them.

The tank has many positives, it is able to crush people, tanks are able to kill a lot of people at once, it has a decent range, and it's very difficult to destroy a tank with just a machine gun. The tank also has negatives they go at a very slow speed of up to 4 mph, they are easily able to tip over, and the tanks would get stuck a lot.

Connections to Today
Tanks are still used in wars as a main weapon for militaries. The best versions of tanks are the T-14 (Armata) of Russia, the Altay MBT of Turkey, the MBT-3000 of China, and the M1A1 Abrams that the US Marines use.
The tanks from WW1 are nothing to modern day tanks. Tanks now have better tracks so they can move faster, instead of soldiers having to bring weapons to the tank now tanks come with weapons incluing high-velocity guns whom can fire kinetic energy penetrators, high explosive anti-tank rounds, and even missiles. These weapons are able to fire faster then ever before.
The Russians used tanks in a war during 2014. In 2001 and 2003 the United Kingdom used tanks in the Afghanistan War. The Marines are trained to use a tank for whenever they need drivers in war. In the current century, almost all the armies around the world use tanks as an important weapon in combat.
